David Waldeck

David Waldeck is a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Pittsburgh's Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on the Chiral-Induced Spin Selectivity (CISS) effect, using spectroscopy, electrochemistry, and microscopy to investigate spin-filtering in electron currents and its technological applications. He leads the Waldeck Lab, which explores chiral nanomaterials, spin-polarized electrochemistry, and the role of homochirality in biological processes.

His research interests span chiral-induced spin phenomena, nanomaterials design, electrochemical processes, and biological electron transfer. Recent work examines how chiral symmetry in nanostructures enables efficient charge/spin transport and the implications of spin polarization for enantioselective interactions in biochemistry.

Waldeck's publications demonstrate strong interdisciplinary focus, with articles frequently appearing in high-impact chemistry, physics, and materials science journals. His recent work reveals a trend toward practical applications of spin effects in energy conversion, catalysis, and biomedical technologies.
