David W. Litchfield is a Professor at Western University's Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, Department of Biochemistry. His research focuses on signal transduction mechanisms governing cell proliferation and survival, with implications in cancer, atherosclerosis, and neurological disorders. He employs molecular biology, structural biology, and functional proteomics, notably investigating protein kinase CK2, CKIP-1, and Pin1.
- B.Sc., McMaster University
- Ph.D., University of Western Ontario
- Postdoctoral Fellow, Howard Hughes Medical Institute & University of Washington
His work on CK2's role in tumorigenesis and collaborations with the London Regional Proteomics Centre have advanced understanding of kinase-targeted therapies. Recent studies include SALL2 degradation in colon cancer, CK2's metabolic regulation in renal cancer, and pannexin isoform analysis in oncogenic processes.
Key techniques span protein phosphorylation dynamics, functional proteomics, and bioinformatic modeling. Current projects address CK2's therapeutic potential and its role in de novo fatty acid synthesis in cancer cells.
Laboratory initiatives include establishing the Functional Proteomics Facility to enhance regional research infrastructure. His career integrates basic science with translational applications, emphasizing kinase networks in disease contexts.
