David Tscharke is a NHMRC Senior Research Fellow and Group Leader at The Australian National University's John Curtin School of Medical Research (JCSMR). He leads the Tscharke Group - Viruses and Immunity, focusing on viral pathogenesis, immune system interactions, and vaccine design. His work spans herpes simplex virus (HSV) latency, antigen presentation, and T cell immunology. He holds affiliations with the Division of Immunology and Infectious Diseases and collaborates with the Wen Group on computational biology.
- Education: PhD from University of Adelaide/IMVS
- Postdoctoral training at Oxford University and Imperial College London
- NIH experience in viral immunology
Research interests include:
- HSV latency and reactivation mechanisms
- CD8+ T cell immunodominance hierarchies
- Antigen presentation dynamics
- Poxvirus vaccine development
Publications focus on viral-host interactions, with recent work highlighting CRISPR-based poxvirus engineering and T cell epitope quantification. Awards include the Young Tall Poppy Award and NHMRC/ARC fellowships. Collaborations involve interdisciplinary teams exploring RNA-binding proteins in immune cell differentiation.
