David Thoreen, Ph.D., is a Professor of English at Assumption College, located in Worcester, Massachusetts. He holds a B.A. in English from St. John’s University (1985), an M.F.A. in Creative Writing (Fiction) from Bowling Green State University (1987), and a Ph.D. in English from SUNY Stony Brook (1994), with a dissertation on manifest destiny in the works of Joan Didion, Robert Stone, and Thomas Pynchon.
His teaching portfolio includes courses such as Creative Writing, American Literature surveys, Poetry, and Film Studies. Thoreen’s research focuses on creative writing techniques, narrative structure, and postmodern American literature, with particular engagement in authors like David Foster Wallace, George Saunders, and Thomas Pynchon. His creative and scholarly work explores themes of language evolution, political satire, and existential inquiry.
Thoreen has been honored with prestigious awards including the Sewanee Writers’ Conference Tennessee Williams Scholarship, the Tamarack Award for Fiction, and multiple Pushcart Prize nominations.
