David Theo Goldberg serves as Director of the University of California Humanities Research Institute (UCHRI) and holds a Professorship in Comparative Literature, Anthropology, and Criminology, Law and Society at the University of California, Irvine. He is also a Fellow of the UCI Critical Theory Institute, contributing to interdisciplinary scholarship across the UC system.
His research critically examines race as a political construct, systemic racism, and intersections of law with social theory, while expanding into digital humanities through collaborative technology initiatives. Goldberg's influential publications explore philosophical dimensions of racism and racial identity in American contexts, establishing foundational frameworks in critical race studies.
His honors include:

Goldberg co-founded the Humanities, Arts, Science and Technology Advanced Collaboratory (HASTAC) with Duke University's Cathy Davidson to bridge humanities with computational fields. He currently leads the MacArthur-UCHRI Research Hub in Digital Media and Learning, building virtual and physical infrastructure for cross-institutional research on digital literacy and learning ecosystems. Earlier creative work includes award-winning film production focused on South African political narratives.
