David Stovall is a Professor in the departments of Black Studies and Criminology, Law & Justice at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). His work bridges theory and practice, focusing on systemic inequities in education and criminal justice. He co-founded the Greater Lawndale/Little Village School for Social Justice (SOJO) in 2005 and volunteered as a social studies teacher there until 2018.

Research Interests:
- Critical Race Theory applied to urban education
- Racialized disparities in schooling and criminalization
- Community-driven education reforms
- Curriculum development for marginalized students
Community Engagement: Co-founder of the Peoples Education Movement, a network of educators and activists creating culturally relevant curricula in Chicago and California. Collaborates with organizations to dismantle the school-to-prison pipeline through policy advocacy and grassroots initiatives.
Teaching: Combined academic leadership with classroom practice, teaching social studies at SOJO while maintaining his UIC professorship.
