David Soskice is a Professor of Political Science and Economics at the London School of Economics (LSE), serving as School Professor since 2012. Previously, he held roles such as Research Director of the LSE International Inequalities Institute (until 2020), Research Director at the Wissenschaftzentrum Berlin (1990–2005), and Research Professor at Duke University and Nuffield College, Oxford. His academic career began as an Economics Fellow at University College, Oxford (1967–1990).
His research focuses on comparative institutional analysis, macroeconomics, political economy, and economic policy. Notable collaborations include work with Wendy Carlin on macroeconomic models and Torben Iversen on advanced capitalist democracies. He has served as President of the European Political Science Association (2011–2014).
- Awards: Fellow of the British Academy, Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, Honorary Fellow of Trinity College, Oxford.
- Visiting Roles: Held visiting professorships at Berkeley, Harvard, Cornell, Yale, and Duke.
His research spans topics like democracy and capitalism, wage bargaining, and the political economy of crime and punishment. Current projects include tractable macroeconomic models and comparative studies on crime policies.
