David Sean Azzolina is a Librarian and Lecturer in Folklore at the University of Pennsylvania. He serves as a Collection Development and Liaison Services Librarian within the School of Arts & Sciences, overseeing collections in Religion, Folklore, Gender Studies, and the History and Sociology of Science. He manages the Reference collection at Van Pelt Library and curates the Yarnall collection for Anglican studies. Additionally, he teaches Folklore courses at Penn.
Educated at the University of Pennsylvania, he holds a Ph.D. in Folklore (focusing on oral narratives), an MA in Folklore, and a BA. He also earned an M.S. in Library Service from Columbia University. Previously, he worked in reference librarianship at Columbia, Johns Hopkins, and Rice Universities, specializing in Social Science and Map librarianship.
His research interests include multiculturalism in the American West, oral narrative analysis, and library science. He has contributed to publications such as the Guide to Reference Books and authored articles on folklore studies. His professional work bridges librarianship and academic instruction, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to cultural studies.
