David Scheinberg

David Scheinberg is a Professor at Weill Cornell Medicine's Graduate School of Medical Sciences and serves as Chair of the Center for Experimental Therapeutics at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) and Deputy Director of the Sloan Kettering Institute for Therapeutic Discovery. He is a member of the Molecular Pharmacology Program and leads a research laboratory focused on developing novel cancer immunotherapies.

Dr. Scheinberg received his BA from Cornell University, followed by MD and PhD degrees from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He completed his training in internal medicine at the NY Hospital and has spent his career at Memorial Sloan Kettering, progressing from Oncology fellow to his current leadership roles, including former Chief of the Leukemia Service.

His research focuses on developing innovative cancer therapeutics based on immune effectors such as antibodies, TCR mimics, and CAR T cells. The laboratory has pioneered approaches including targeted alpha particle therapies, targeted beta emitters, oncogenic protein peptide vaccines, and humanized antibodies, many of which have advanced to human clinical trials. Notable achievements include a molecular nanogenerator in Phase II trials and a WT1 vaccine in Phase III trials. More recently, the lab discovered TCR mimic antibodies to intracellular proteins, prototype targeted nano-machines, and cellular micropharmacies.

Analysis of Dr. Scheinberg's publications reveals a strong focus on targeting intracellular oncoproteins, particularly WT1, using innovative antibody approaches. His work bridges fundamental immunology with clinical translation, with consistent progression from basic discovery to human trials across multiple therapeutic platforms including antibodies, vaccines, and nanodevices.

Dr. Scheinberg has received numerous prestigious honors including being named #15 of Top Translational Scientists in the World by Nature Biotech, the Doris Duke Distinguished Clinical Scientist award, and the Emil Freireich Prize from MDACC. He is also an elected member of the American Association of Physicians, American Society for Clinical Investigation, and Interurban Clinical Club.

As laboratory head, Dr. Scheinberg mentors numerous graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and research scientists. His lab is affiliated with multiple research centers including the Center for Experimental Therapeutics, Center for Cell Engineering, Geoffrey Beene Cancer Research Center, and Center for Molecular Imaging & Bioengineering. His research is supported by various NIH grants including R01 CA055349 and P01 CA023766.
