Dr. David Schaefer is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Communication Arts at Franciscan University of Steubenville. He holds a Ph.D. in Communications from The Ohio State University, and M.A. and B.A. degrees in Telecommunications and Radio-Television from Southern Illinois University. His research focuses on globalization's impact on media, particularly Bollywood cinema, examining themes like cultural hybridity, soft power, and audience reception.
Dr. Schaefer advises the WFRScc student radio station and supervises the Digital Audio Lab. His work bridges theoretical frameworks such as postcolonial theory and media literacy with empirical studies on cultural dynamics in globalized media landscapes. Recent research explores Bollywood's role in transnational soft power, the evolving representation of gender in Indian cinema, and the neurological engagement of audiences with film content.
