David Scanlon

Dr. David Scanlon is a Lecturer in Biology & Biopharmaceutical Science at the Department of Science, South East Technological University (SETU). He holds a PhD in Biochemistry from University College Dublin (2007) and has extensive industry and postdoctoral experience, including a 7-year tenure as a Post-Doctoral Fellow at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), Toronto. His research focuses on ion channel interactions, mitochondrial roles in synaptic function, and biotherapeutic discovery. Scanlon teaches courses ranging from introductory biology to advanced research methodology and supervises undergraduate research projects.

Research Interests: He investigates mitochondrial protein trafficking, ion channel complex interactions, and translational medicine approaches for chronic pain and neurodegenerative diseases. Techniques include BioID proteomics and mitochondrial pathway analysis.
