Professor David S. Wall is a Chair in Criminology at the University of Leeds' School of Law, affiliated with the Centre for Criminal Justice Studies. His expertise spans cybercrime, cybersecurity, policing, and organized crime. He holds academic leadership roles, including former Headships of the School of Law (2005-2007) and Durham University's School of Applied Social Sciences (2011-2014). Educated at the University of Leeds (PhD, 1999), he has authored over 50 articles and 12 books, with interdisciplinary research funded by EU FP6/FP7, ESRC, EPSRC, and others.
Key research projects include CRITiCal (combatting cybercrime in the cloud), EMPHASIS (ransomware impacts), and SYNYO (organised crime and terrorism networks). He advises governmental bodies like the Home Office Cybercrime Working Group and the UNODC. Awards include FAcSS, FRSA, and a Turing Fellowship (2018-2021).
His work explores cybercrime's societal impacts, data governance, and AI applications. Recent focus areas include ransomware trends, transnational cybercrime, and cybersecurity data-sharing frameworks.
