Dr. David S. Knight is an Associate Professor and co-Director of the Education Policy Analytics Lab at the University of Washington. He holds a Ph.D. in Educational Policy and a Master’s in Economics from the University of Southern California. Previously, he served as Assistant Professor at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) College of Education and Director of UTEP’s Center for Education Research and Policy Studies.
His research focuses on the economics of education, school finance equity, distributive justice, and policies addressing racial/ethnic and socioeconomic disparities in educational opportunity. Knight leads a $1.5M NSF grant examining teacher turnover during the pandemic using Texas and Washington data, and co-leads grants on school finance reforms and dual-credit education costs.
Key research interests include fiscal equity, pandemic-era school funding challenges, and systemic barriers to educational access. His work bridges economic theory with policy analysis to advocate for equitable resource allocation in education.
