David Romberg

David Romberg is an Associate Professor in Film Studies within the Media & Communication department. His educational background includes an M.F.A. in Film and Media Arts and a B.F.A. in Fine Arts from Temple University.

His research merges documentary and fiction through community-based storytelling, focusing on:

• Immigration and displacement narratives
• Reinterpretations of cultural mythology (e.g., Tupinamba indigenous stories)
• Experimental film techniques challenging mainstream cinema

Current projects include two films in post-production exploring refuge and identity in Brazilian settings.

Teaching emphasizes artistic experimentation where students:

• Take intentional creative risks
• Develop personal voices through 'controlled mistakes'
• Explore unconventional techniques in cinematography and editing
