معرفی
David Rippin is a Senior Lecturer in Physical Geography at the University of York's Department of Environment and Geography. He holds a BSc (1st Class Hons.) in Geography and Geology from the University of Birmingham and a Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge. His career includes post-doctoral roles at the Universities of Bristol, Leeds, and Hull before joining York in 2010.
His research focuses on glacier dynamics, ice-sheet stability, and the application of radio-echo sounding (RES) techniques to study subglacial environments. Key interests include thermal regimes of glaciers, supraglacial debris and water dynamics, and the impact of climate change on Arctic and Antarctic glaciers. He has conducted fieldwork in Antarctica, Svalbard, Sweden, Iceland, and alpine regions.
Rippin has secured extensive funding for projects such as the Leverhulme Trust's 'Archival Polar Photography' initiative and NERC grants exploring Greenland's ice dynamics. He is an editor of the Journal of Glaciology (since 2009) and a member of the NERC Peer Review College since 2010.
Major awards include the Royal Society Research Grant (2010), Royal Geographical Society Peter Fleming Award (2010), and multiple NERC and EU grants. His work bridges geophysical methods, remote sensing, and climate science to understand glacial systems' past and future behavior.
