David Reich is a Professor of Genetics at Harvard Medical School and Professor of Human Evolutionary Biology at Harvard University. His research focuses on ancient DNA analysis to reconstruct human genetic history, particularly exploring population movements, admixture events, and their implications for understanding human adaptation and disease.
Research interests include building a three-dimensional understanding of human genetic variation by incorporating temporal data from ancient samples, making ancient DNA techniques accessible to archaeologists, and leveraging population history insights to address medical needs such as rare recessive diseases in endogamous populations.
Recent publications highlight his work on African American genetic legacy, Swahili coast population dynamics, and ancient DNA's role in tracing historical migrations. His lab collaborates globally with archaeologists and stakeholders to integrate genetic data with archaeological findings.
