David Pooler is a Professor at the Diana R. Garland School of Social Work, Baylor University. His work focuses on clergy-perpetrated sexual abuse, professional joy in social work, organizational leadership, and social worker wellbeing. He holds a PhD and MSSW from the University of Louisville, and a BA from Lee University. His research addresses systemic issues in social work organizations and faith communities, emphasizing ethical practice and trauma-informed care.

Research emphasizes clergy sexual abuse survivor advocacy, professional flourishing among social workers, and organizational justice in social services. His 2025 studies on institutional betrayal trauma and 2022 pandemic-related substance use research highlight current priorities. He co-developed training programs for trauma-sensitive case management in schools and evaluates faith-based sex education programs for minority youth.
