David Philipp Eibeck is a Researcher in the Department of Ancient History at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz since April 2023, while also serving as a project collaborator on the DFG-funded Editing Tools for Digital Epigraphy (EDEp) project. He holds an MA in History (2022) with specialization in Ancient History from the University of Stuttgart, where he previously taught epigraphy, archaeology, and Latin. His research focuses on
- Roman Republic political dynamics
- Cultural identity in Republican Italy
- Digital epigraphy and numismatic analysis
- Colonization processes in the Western Mediterranean
His recent publications highlight interdisciplinary approaches combining epigraphic records with digital tools and numismatic evidence. Notably, he received two prestigious awards for his MA thesis:
- Bürkert Universitätspreis (2023)
- Wilhelm Zimmermann-Preis (2023)
As an active member of the international Epigraphy.info research community—including roles on its Steering Committee (2023–2025) and Communication & Outreach Working Group—he contributes to epigraphic education through initiatives like the Saxa Loquuntur summer school and collaborative inscriptional editions.
