Professor David Phalen is a veterinary scientist and academic at the University of Sydney's Faculty of Veterinary Science. He holds academic positions including Director of the Wildlife Health and Conservation Centre and Avian Reptile and Exotic Pet Hospital. His expertise spans exotic animal medicine, wildlife pathology, and conservation biology. Phalen earned a B.A. from the University of Chicago, a DVM from Cornell University, and a PhD in Pathobiology from Texas A&M University. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (Avian Specialty).
Research interests focus on infectious, toxicological, and nutritional diseases of wildlife and exotic species, alongside conservation ecology. He teaches exotic pet husbandry and wildlife medicine to veterinary students, coordinating the Small Animal Practice A unit.
