Dr. David Parker is an Associate Professor in the Department of History at Queen's University, affiliated with the Faculty of Arts and Science. His research focuses on Latin America's middle class, urban social history, law and society, and global knowledge transfer. He holds a Ph.D. from Stanford University (1991), an M.A. in Latin American Studies from Stanford (1986), and a B.A. from Wesleyan University (1982).
His notable works include The Pen, the Sword, and the Law: Dueling and Democracy in Uruguay (2022), exploring how dueling codes shaped journalism and politics, and Latin America's Middle Class: Unsettled Debates and New Histories (2012). His current SSHRC-funded research examines South American urban social problems through global comparisons.
