David P. Eisenman is a Professor at the David Geffen School of Medicine and holds a joint appointment at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, where he directs the Center for Public Health and Disasters. He is also an Associate Natural Scientist at RAND. His research focuses on community resilience to disasters, climate change impacts on health, and trauma mental health, with a particular emphasis on vulnerable populations in urban settings.

Dr. Eisenman’s work examines the intersection of social and built-environment factors in heatwave mortality, wildfire-related mental health outcomes, and behavioral responses to emergency alerts. He leads the Los Angeles County Community Disaster Resilience Project (LACCDR), a county-wide initiative to enhance community-level preparedness. His recent research explores how land cover changes can mitigate urban heat effects in low-income communities of color.
His recent publications highlight trends in climate change adaptation, social vulnerability indices, and disaster health outcomes. He contributes to public health policy and has secured significant funding for urban heat mitigation projects, including a $956,000 award for Heat Resilient L.A.. Dr. Eisenman co-advises PhD student Edith de Guzman and collaborates with the Center for Public Health and Disasters and RAND’s environmental research teams.
