Professor David Newby is a leading academic at the University of Edinburgh’s Centre for Cardiovascular Science, holding the prestigious BHF Duke of Edinburgh Chair of Cardiology. His research focuses on advanced imaging techniques for cardiovascular diseases, including coronary heart disease, aortic stenosis, and heart failure.
His work explores the interaction between cardiac and respiratory diseases, with significant emphasis on the atherothrombotic effects of air pollution. He has pioneered multicentre trials such as the SALTIRE and 3CPO studies, and currently leads trials like SCOT-HEART, MA3RS, and PRE 18 FFIR, funded by major institutions including the British Heart Foundation (BHF), Wellcome Trust, and National Institute for Health Research (NIHR).
