David Myer Temin is Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Michigan, with faculty affiliation in Native American Studies. His research bridges Indigenous political thought, decolonization studies, and critical analysis of settler colonialism.
His award-winning book 'Remapping Sovereignty' examines how North American Indigenous intellectuals redefined self-determination beyond state sovereignty paradigms. Current work develops 'Wages for Earthwork' as a framework for recognizing ecological stewardship labor in climate justice movements. Publications explore tensions between Third World developmentalism and decolonial theory, and offer critical reassessments of thinkers like Walter Mignolo and Hannah Arendt.
Professor Temin teaches courses on US colonialism, postcolonial theory, and political thought. His research has been recognized with the APSA Foundations of Political Theory Best First Book Award and supported by fellowships including the John Rich Faculty Fellowship at Michigan's Institute for the Humanities.
