David Merrill is an Assistant Professor in the MFT/ISF/CTI Department at Talbot School of Theology, Biola University. He holds a Ph.D. from Durham University (U.K.), a Th.M. and M.Div. from Talbot School of Theology, and a B.A. from Trinity International University. His research focuses on Thomas Traherne’s theology, emphasizing beauty, desire, and divine encounter. He teaches courses on spiritual formation, vocation, and theology.
Before joining Talbot full-time, Merrill pastored a church in Paradise, California, after the 2018 wildfires. He remains involved in ministering to the community. His academic affiliations include the American Association of Religion, Evangelical Theological Society, and Thomas Traherne Association. Notable presentations include discussions on Traherne’s theological aesthetics at conferences in the U.K. and North America.
