David Melamed is a Professor of Sociology and core faculty at the Translational Data Analytics Institute at The Ohio State University. His research focuses on how social structures—such as network, status, and class hierarchies—shape individual outcomes. Key areas include prosocial behaviors in networks, small-group inequalities, and macro-level class structures. His work is supported by grants from the Army Research Office and National Science Foundation (NSF).
Research interests span group processes, computational modeling, and stratification. Recent studies explore gender status beliefs, cooperative networks preventing political segregation, and methodological advances in regression analysis. He has authored books, including *Regression Inside Out* and *Applications of Regression for Categorical Outcomes Using R*, and co-edited *Sociological Methodology* (2020–2024). His interdisciplinary approach bridges sociology, data analytics, and computational methods.
Grants and collaborations highlight his NSF-funded projects on reward stability and group cooperation, as well as Army Research Office support for network dynamics research. Methodological contributions include the *catregs* R package for categorical outcome modeling and dual-projection approaches for community structure analysis in networks.
Labs/Teams: Active in the Translational Data Analytics Institute, focusing on interdisciplinary data-driven research. His work often integrates social theory with computational tools, emphasizing practical applications in sociology and policy.
