Professor David McGravie serves as Pro Vice-Chancellor (International) and Executive Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Chester since October 2022. Previously, he was Interim PVC Dean of the College of Arts, Humanities, and Education at the University of Derby (2021–2022), overseeing three academic schools and strategic alignment with university policies. He holds honorary professorships at Xi’an University of Finance and Economics and Beihai University of Art and Design.
Education: Master’s in Digital Practices (University of Hertfordshire, 2003), Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (2015), and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (2001).
Research focuses on leadership in higher education, strategic advocacy for creative arts, and the intersection of creative and critical thinking. His work explores 3D printing’s impact on design processes and consumer roles, emphasizing bespoke manufacturing. He leads CHEAD’s Leadership Programme, fostering sector-wide development.
Awards include Fellowship distinctions, and collaborations include partnerships with Dubrek Studios and GoldBox Productions. He actively engages in policy advocacy through CHEAD’s alignment with Policy Connect to promote creative education’s societal value.
