David McGillivray

David McGillivray is a Professor at the School of Business and Creative Industries, University of the West of Scotland. His research focuses on the socio-cultural impacts of events, digital media's role in civic participation, and sport events' influence on disability inclusion. He co-leads a UK/Canadian project on disability accessibility and media narratives, and the EventRights European project examining mega-sport events and human rights. Deputy Editor of the Event Management Journal, he also evaluates strategy and policy for digital media use in organizations.

Key research areas include: (1) Event studies: exploring mega-events' economic, social, and cultural externalities; (2) Digital cultures: digital citizenship, social media affordances, and marginalized communities' representation; (3) Sport and disability: media representation and accessibility policies. Recent projects analyze Brisbane's sport legacy planning and community resistance to urban stigmatization.

Recipient of the 2014 Research Impact Gold Medal, his work bridges academia and practice through impact evaluations and collaborative initiatives. Active in interdisciplinary training, he co-organized workshops on participatory action research methods for doctoral students in 2018-2019.
