David McFadden, M.D., Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center, with dual appointments in Radiation Oncology and Biochemistry. He leads the McFadden Lab, which focuses on identifying therapeutic targets for cancers like thyroid carcinoma, Ewing sarcoma, and small cell lung cancer using genetic and chemical approaches. His clinical expertise lies in treating endocrine tumors, particularly thyroid cancer.
Education:
- Bachelor’s in Microbiology, Texas A&M University (cum laude)
- M.D. and Ph.D. in Genetics from UT Southwestern
- Internal Medicine Residency: Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Boston
- Endocrinology Fellowship: Massachusetts General Hospital
Research Interests: Dr. McFadden’s work integrates genetic engineering and chemical screening to discover novel cancer treatments. Key areas include mitochondrial dysfunction in Hürthle cell carcinoma, targeted therapies for Ewing sarcoma, and advancing small cell lung cancer biology. His lab has identified dependencies on aerobic fermentation in thyroid cancers and characterized molecular mechanisms of drug action.
Grants & Funding:
- National Institutes of Health
- American Thyroid Association
- Cancer Prevention & Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT)
- UT Southwestern Disease Oriented Clinical Scholars (DOCS) Program
Labs & Teams: The McFadden Lab collaborates across disciplines to develop innovative cancer therapies. Current projects emphasize mitochondrial pathways and drug target identification in aggressive tumors. Postdoctoral and student researchers contribute to translational studies bridging basic science and clinical applications.
