David Maynard is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at California State University, San Bernardino. He also holds a joint appointment in the Department of Physics and Astronomy. As co-director of the CNS Science Success Center, he provides advising and non-academic support to STEM majors, funded by the Department of Education PATHS grants.
- B.S. Chemistry, 1976, CSUSB
- Secondary Teaching Credential in Physical Sciences and Mathematics, 1978, CSUSB
- M.S. Chemistry, 1986, CSU Long Beach
- Ph.D. Chemistry, 1992, UC Riverside
- Post-Doc in Teaching, 1993, Occidental College
Maynard's research focuses on organic structure, properties, and the isolation and identification of natural products. His work includes studies on mercury(II)-mediated hydrolysis reactions, vitamin D analogues, and insecticidal compounds from avocado oil. He has contributed to chemical education through innovative laboratory equipment designs such as microscale rotary evaporators and audio conductivity devices.
His teaching interests span general chemistry, organic chemistry, and STEM training, covering courses like CHEM 1000, CHEM 2100, and CHEM 5500. His publications highlight interdisciplinary applications of chemistry in education, agriculture, and environmental science.
Maynard co-founded the CNS Science Success Center, which emphasizes reducing achievement gaps through educational interventions like lesson study processes (Teele et al., 2015).
