David Maw is a Tutor in Music and Fellow of Oriel College, University of Oxford. He also serves as Director of Music and Fellow Librarian at Oriel, while teaching for Christ Church and Trinity College. His academic career spans over two decades since 1995, with a DPhil focused on Guillaume de Machaut's secular songs.

Maw's research bridges historical musicology and theory, covering medieval music (13th-14th century polyphony), post-1900 music, and compositional practice. He is currently completing a new edition of Machaut's works, writing a book on Machaut's songs, analyzing Beethoven's Eroica Symphony, and developing a fugue-based composition pedagogy.
His publications since 2001 include studies on Machaut's metric practices, medieval-Renaissance music, and 20th-century British composers. He has received multiple awards including the Westrup Prize (2006) and Grand Prix André Marchal (2013). As a composer and organist, he has performed in UK and France, with works recorded by Oriel Choir and published by Editions Billaudot and Delatour.
