David Mateos

David Mateos is an ICREA Research Professor at the Department of Quantum Physics and Astrophysics, Faculty of Physics, University of Barcelona, since July 2008. His academic journey includes a PhD in Theoretical Physics from the University of Barcelona (2000) and postdoctoral positions at Cambridge University (UK), Perimeter Institute (Canada), and University of California at Santa Barbara (USA).

Research interests: Specializes in string theory, quantum field theory, black holes, gauge theory, and string duality, focusing on theoretical frameworks connecting gravity, quantum mechanics, and high-energy physics.

Scientific awards: Recipient of two prestigious European Research Council (ERC) grants—

• Starting Grant (2012, 1.4M€)
• Advanced Grant (2024, 2.5M€)

—highlighting sustained excellence in theoretical physics research.
