University of Texas Southwestern Medical Centerمعرفی
David Mangelsdorf, Ph.D. is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Pharmacology at UT Southwestern Medical School. He also serves as an Investigator at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) and holds two distinguished chair positions: the Alfred G. Gilman Distinguished Chair in Pharmacology and the Raymond and Ellen Willie Distinguished Chair in Molecular Neuropharmacology.
Dr. Mangelsdorf’s research, conducted jointly with Dr. Steven Kliewer, focuses on nuclear receptor regulation of metabolism. Their work has identified key signaling pathways involving fibroblast growth factors (FGF19 and FGF21) that govern nutrient metabolism during feeding and fasting. This research highlights potential therapeutic targets for metabolic disorders such as cholestasis, type 2 diabetes, and obesity. Additionally, their discovery of a nuclear receptor pathway in parasitic nematodes opens avenues for developing anthelmintic agents.
