David W. Lyons is a Professor of Mathematical Sciences at Lebanon Valley College (LVC). His research focuses on quantum information science, integrating mathematics, physics, computer science, and engineering. He holds a B.S. from Davidson College and a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where his thesis work was in algebraic topology of Lie Groups. Lyons is a co-Principal Investigator in LVC's Mathematical Physics Research Group and webmaster for the Tetrahedral Geometry-Topology Seminar.
His research interests include quantum entanglement, symmetry in quantum systems, and the application of algebraic topology to quantum information theory. He has secured significant NSF grants, including CQIS: RUI awards (2020, 2017), totaling over $400,000. His pedagogical work emphasizes visualization in mathematics education, reflected in projects like the Math Vista video series.
Lyons has authored over 40 peer-reviewed publications and presented at international conferences such as QIP, TQC, and the British Mathematics Colloquium. His work bridges abstract mathematical concepts with practical quantum technologies, emphasizing interdisciplinary collaboration.
