David Lewis is a Professor at the School of Ethnology and Sociology, Yunnan University, Kunming, China. He has also taught about Japan at the universities of Cambridge and Leeds. His research focuses on the anthropology of religion in Japan, England, Russia, and other former USSR regions. He has authored and co-edited numerous books, including Religion in Japanese Daily Life (2018), Ethnicity and Religion in Southwest China (2021), and After Atheism: Religion and Ethnicity in Russia and Central Asia (2013).

Research Interests: His work explores spiritual experiences across Buddhist, Muslim, Christian, and pagan communities in Siberia, Central Asia, and European Russia. Publications: Key works include studies on religious worldviews, healing practices, and environmental anthropology. He has also translated and co-authored texts on Kalmyk culture and Southwest Chinese ethnicity.
