David Landau is a Professor of Cinematography and Cinema Technology Director at the School of the Arts, Fairleigh Dickinson University. He has been a full professor since 2002 and directs the Cinematography Concentration and Screenwriting Minor programs. Prior to academia, he worked professionally in entertainment since 1978, holding roles such as Gaffer on TV shows like 'Project Runway,' and as a theater lighting designer and corporate videographer.
Education:
- BS in Cinema Studies & Photography, Ithaca College (1978)
- MFA in Screenwriting, Goddard College (2005)
Research Interests: Focuses on the dramatic use of lighting in visual storytelling, history of cinematography, and LED lighting applications in film. His work bridges traditional film techniques with emerging technologies.
Awards: Recipient of multiple playwriting and screenwriting awards, with seven published plays by Samuel French and several screenplays optioned for production.
Advising & Labs: Leads the cinematography program and has pioneered interactive theater projects like 'Murder To Go' and the interactive film 'Murder at Cafe Noir.' Active in both academic and industry collaborations.
