Dr. David Lalman is a Professor and Extension Beef Cattle Specialist at Oklahoma State University (OSU), holding the Harrington Endowed Chair with a split extension and research appointment. He focuses on cow/calf and stocker cattle production, emphasizing beef cattle nutrition, grazing management, and genetic-environment interactions to enhance profitability and efficiency in beef systems. He leads the Animal Science Extension Program and oversees the Range Cow Research Center.
Education: PhD in Animal Sciences from the University of Missouri (1996).
Research Interests: Cow/calf nutrition, nutrition-reproduction interactions, beef production systems, sustainable livestock management, and environmental impacts of beef production. His work includes developing tools like the OSU Cowculator to aid producers in optimizing nutrition and management decisions.
Funding & Grants: Over 30 grants since 2014, including projects on forage utilization, AI-based stress analysis in cattle, gastrointestinal nematodes, and sustainable water use in livestock. Key grants include 'Efficient Forage Utilization in Beef Cows' (2023-2028) and 'Impact of Management of Composite Dairy X Beef Crossbreds' (2022-2026).
Teaching: Courses include 'Applied Animal Nutrition' and graduate research supervision. He also develops extension publications on topics like body condition scoring, calf preconditioning, and regenerative agriculture.
