David L. Cooperrider is a Distinguished University Professor at Case Western Reserve University, holding the Covia - David L. Cooperrider Professorship in Appreciative Inquiry at the Weatherhead School of Management. He serves as Founder of the Fowler Center for Business as an Agent of World Benefit and Honorary Chairman of Champlain College's David L. Cooperrider Center for Appreciative Inquiry at the Robert P. Stiller School of Business.
Cooperrider is best known for his original theoretical articulation of Appreciative Inquiry (AI) with his mentor Suresh Srivastva. His work has received numerous accolades including the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Organization Development Network in 2017. AI's strengths-inspired approach to change has been adopted globally across corporate, public service, educational, economic, faith-based, philanthropic, and academic sectors.
His research focuses on appreciative inquiry, large-scale whole systems change, sustainable design, macro management, and the concept of Business as an Agent of World Benefit. Cooperrider's work emphasizes creating systems for 'full-spectrum flourishing' where businesses excel, people thrive, and nature flourishes across generations.
Cooperrider has advised prominent global leaders including five Presidents and Nobel Laureates such as William Jefferson Clinton, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Kofi Annan, and Jimmy Carter. His corporate clients span major organizations including Apple, Johnson & Johnson, and Wal-Mart, while his international work includes collaborations with the United Nations, UN Global Compact, and numerous global NGOs.

He serves on multiple boards including the International Association of Positive Psychology and the Taos Institute, and maintains active roles as Honorary Chair of the World Conference for Appreciative Inquiry and Board Member of the International Journal for Appreciative Inquiry.
