David L. Alderson is a Professor in the Operations Research Department at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) in Monterey, CA. He also serves as Executive Director of the NPS Center for Infrastructure Defense (CID) and Data Science and Analytics Group (DSAG). His academic background includes a Ph.D. from Stanford University (2003) and undergraduate degree from Princeton University. Previously held positions include roles at Caltech, UCLA, Xerox PARC, and Goldman Sachs.
Dr. Alderson's research focuses on critical infrastructure resilience, network-centric systems, and cyber-physical-social systems. He has led sponsored projects for all US military branches and works at the intersection of efficiency, complexity, and fragility in infrastructures. His teaching emphasizes computational methods, infrastructure defense, and network science.
