David King is an Assistant Professor in Sport and Exercise Science at Heriot-Watt University, based in the School of Energy, Geoscience, Infrastructure and Society. He holds dual affiliations within the Institute for Life and Earth Sciences. Previously, he managed the Surrey Human Performance Institute at the University of Surrey and taught on BSc/MSc courses in Sport and Exercise Science and Human Nutrition.

Research Interests: Focus on exercise/nutrition interventions for cardiometabolic health in clinical populations (cancer, metabolic syndrome) and athletes. Key areas include multi-modal prehabilitation for surgical outcomes, carbohydrate/ergogenic aids in endurance sports, and appetite regulation in diabetes.
Recent Research Trends: Recent articles emphasize prehabilitation strategies for pancreatic surgery patients and explore novel performance-enhancing substances like oxygen nanobubbles and sodium bicarbonate. Work bridges clinical medicine and elite sport science.
Labs/Teams: Currently contributes to Heriot-Watt’s research and commercial goals through the Oriam Centre. Previously managed the Surrey Human Performance Institute.
