David King is a Lecturer in the Department of Psychology at the University of British Columbia's Faculty of Arts, where he has taught since 2012. His academic home is firmly within the Department of Psychology, specializing in health psychology and related domains.
Dr. King received his Ph.D. in Psychology from UBC in 2013, with an M.Sc. in statistical modeling and B.Sc. in psychology from Trent University. His educational background reflects both quantitative rigor and psychological depth.
His research interests span health psychology, stress and coping mechanisms, personality theory, interpersonal dynamics, and the social contexts of stress. His work examines how stress manifests across different social scales—from intimate relationships to global events like the COVID-19 pandemic. Additional scholarly interests include socioeconomic factors in health, the impact of stigma and discrimination on well-being, and the psychological role of meaning in trauma processing.
Dr. King's publication portfolio reveals consistent focus on relationship dynamics, stress responses, and health behaviors. His recent work has examined pandemic responses, bipolar disorder symptom monitoring, and the longitudinal effects of life satisfaction in aging couples. The research demonstrates methodological diversity including daily diary studies, cross-cultural research across 35 nations, and ecological momentary assessment techniques.

He is also co-author of two undergraduate textbooks, including the 3rd Canadian edition of 'Personality Psychology: Domains of Knowledge about Human Nature' with Randy J. Larsen and David M. Buss. Beyond teaching, he actively contributes to departmental initiatives, currently developing 'PrideMind,' a community care project for 2SLGBTQIA+ students, staff, and faculty in the Department of Psychology.
