David Kawalko Roselli is a Professor of Ancient Studies/Classics and Robert Palmer Chair in Classical Studies at Scripps College, where he also chairs the Department of Ancient Studies/Classics. His research focuses on ancient Greek cultural history, modern interpretations of class and culture, and the role of laborers in Greek drama. He has authored Theater of the People: Spectators and Society in Ancient Athens (2011) and is currently writing a book on laborers in Ancient Greek drama and human sacrifice in Greek tragedy.
Dr. Roselli holds a B.A. from New York University and M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Toronto, both in Classics. His courses span Greek and Latin language instruction, classical reception studies, critical theory, and film analysis. He is affiliated with Scripps’ Humanities Major: Interdisciplinary Studies in Culture and contributes to the Core Curriculum in Interdisciplinary Humanities.
His scholarly awards include NEH, Fulbright, Mellon, and DAAD fellowships, along with the Mary W. Johnson Faculty Achievement Award and ACLS Graves Award for Teaching. His work appears in Phoenix, Helios, and encyclopedic companions to the ancient world.
