Dr. David Kaplin is an Associate Professor at the State University of New York at Fredonia. He transitioned from a legal career in Wall Street and Washington DC to academia, focusing on literary analysis. His teaching interests include Victorian and Romantic literature, British imperialism, mystery fiction, narrative theory, and ethical writing practices.
- Education: Ph.D. in Literature from Indiana University
Research explores lying’s role in national identity, role-immersion pedagogy, and contemporary rhetorical theory. He actively advises pre-law students and coaches Fredonia’s nationally recognized mock trial team. In 2021, he received the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching.
Dr. Kaplin is also known for engaging with classic authors like Dickens and Eliot, often reading them aloud in a mock British accent. He emphasizes argumentative writing and collaborates with peers on interdisciplinary projects.
