David K. Orren, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Toxicology and Cancer Biology at the University of Kentucky, and a member of the Markey Cancer Center. He holds a B.A. in Chemistry and Zoology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (1979) and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Biophysics from the same institution (1991). Post-doctoral training was completed at the National Cancer Institute and National Institute on Aging, NIH.
Research interests focus on DNA repair mechanisms, Werner syndrome, aging processes, and lung cancer etiology. Key areas include genomic stability, protein function in replication stress, and environmental toxicology. Recent work explores epithelial-mesenchymal transition in lung cancer and regional disparities in cancer outcomes in Kentucky.
Publications span molecular biology, genetics, and oncology, with contributions to understanding DNA repair pathways and epidemiological studies of lung cancer. Collaborative efforts integrate basic science with clinical insights, particularly in Markey Cancer Center initiatives.
