David John Mattingly is a Professor of Roman Archaeology at the School of Archaeology and Ancient History, University of Leicester. He has held significant roles including Acting Head of School (2013-14, 2002, 1998-1999) and Research Director (2009-2012) within the College of Arts, Humanities, and Law. His academic career spans institutions like the University of Michigan (Assistant Professor, 1989-1991) and the University of Oxford (British Academy Post-Doctoral Fellow, 1986-1989).
- Education: BA (1st Class Honours) and PhD from the University of Manchester (1977-1984)
Research Interests include:
- Saharan archaeology
- Ancient urbanism
- Postcolonial perspectives on Roman Imperialism
