David Jansson is a Professor of Cultural Geography at Uppsala University's Department of Human Geography, serving as Director of Doctoral Studies. A dual citizen of Sweden and the United States with Ålandic roots, he previously taught at Vassar College (New York) before earning his PhD in Human Geography from Pennsylvania State University in 2005. His work bridges cultural, political, and critical race geographies.

- Åland Migration Studies – analyzing language, culture, and belonging in Ålandic diaspora
- Automobility & the Swedish folkhem – linking transportation systems to collective identity
- Exceptionalism Critique – comparing U.S. and Swedish national narratives
- Visual Resistance – exploring antiwar protest through corporeal politics
Publication Trends show interdisciplinary engagement with internal orientalism, migration theory, automobility, and critical race studies. Recent work (2022-2024) expands to plantation logics in Europe, post-Anthropocene spatial futures, and memory politics at museums.
