David J Meyers, PhD, MPH is an Associate Professor in the Department of Health Services, Policy and Practice at Brown University's School of Public Health. He serves as Director of Brown's PhD in Health Services Research and Associate Director of the Center for Advancing Health Policy Through Research (CAHPR). Additionally, he acts as a Senior Advisor to the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) on the Medicare Advantage program and holds the position of Vice Department Chair.
Dr. Meyers earned his PhD in Health Services Research with a concentration in Health Economics from Brown University School of Public Health, and an MPH in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from Tufts University School of Medicine. Prior to his doctoral training, he worked in the Department of Health Policy and Management at the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health.
As a health services researcher and health economist, Dr. Meyers specializes in payment and delivery reform with a focus on the Medicare program. His research spans Medicare Advantage payment policy, provider networks and quality ratings, integrated care plans for dually eligible beneficiaries, vertical integration of providers and insurers, and the experiences of Transgender beneficiaries in Medicare. His work frequently examines healthcare disparities and utilizes large administrative datasets requiring advanced causal inference techniques.
His extensive publication record demonstrates consistent focus on Medicare Advantage policy, with recent work examining dialysis networks, transgender healthcare access, supplemental benefits, disenrollment patterns, and health equity initiatives. His research shows increasing attention to marginalized populations including transgender individuals and dual-eligible beneficiaries, while maintaining rigorous analysis of Medicare Advantage program mechanics and financial impacts.
