David Ingram is a Professor of Computational Fluid Dynamics and holds a Personal Chair at the School of Engineering, University of Edinburgh. He specializes in numerical simulation of fluid dynamics with applications to renewable energy systems, particularly wave and tidal energy. His work includes advancing pre-construction simulation models for offshore wind, anchor loading analysis, and grid-scale wave energy technology development. Ingram has led over 113 research projects and contributed to 169 publications.
Education: PhD (1992) in Numerical Simulation of Blast Wave Impacts from Manchester Metropolitan University and BSc (1988) in Mathematics, Statistics, and Computing from the University of Greenwich. He has advised the UK Parliament on renewable energy policy and serves on committees for marine energy innovation.
Research focuses on hydrodynamic interactions in wave energy converters, floating offshore wind turbine dynamics, and experimental validation of numerical models. His activities include collaborations with organizations like the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult and Mocean Energy Ltd. Ingram’s datasets on wave and current experiments are publicly available, supporting reproducibility in marine energy research.
