David Hoyos is an Associate Professor in the Department of Quantitative Methods at the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) since 2010. He holds a European PhD in Economics from UPV/EHU and an MA in Development Economics from the University of Manchester, UK. He serves as Associate Researcher at EKOPOL (Ecological Economics Research Group) and BC3 (Basque Centre for Climate Change), and is a member of the Committee of Experts for UNESCO's Chair on Sustainable Development and Environmental Education at UPV/EHU.
His research focuses on the intersection of economics, environment, and development, with emphasis on:
- Ecological economics and sustainability transitions
- Climate change policy and governance
- Degrowth and postdevelopment paradigms
- Sustainable mobility systems
- Environmental education and justice frameworks
His publications analyze trends in sustainable development policy, critique conventional economic growth models, and explore alternatives like degrowth. Recent work examines transformative education frameworks and socio-ecological justice in policy implementation.
He collaborates with research groups including EKOPOL and BC3, focusing on interdisciplinary approaches to sustainability challenges and policy-relevant ecological economics.
