David Hill is a Professor and Head at the School of Architecture within the College of Design at North Carolina State University. His work focuses on interdisciplinary research in architectural acoustics, disaster resilience, and sustainable building design, often collaborating with departments such as Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering, as well as the Center for Geospatial Analytics.
Key research interests include modeling historical acoustic environments, post-disaster community infrastructure design, and integrating precast concrete systems into architectural education. He has led projects funded by organizations like the National Endowment for the Humanities and the PCI Foundation, addressing challenges in coastal resiliency, energy-efficient building processes, and disaster recovery strategies.
Notable projects include developing open-source acoustic simulation tools for historic spaces and creating disaster-resistant public structures (PARCS) for coastal communities. He also contributes to educational initiatives, such as integrated architecture and civil engineering studios focused on precast concrete applications.
His collaborative efforts span academic and community partners, including the University of North Carolina Coastal Studies Institute and Dare County Office of Emergency Management, emphasizing real-world applications of research.
