Dr. David Haughton is an Honorary Senior Research Fellow in the School of Mathematics & Statistics at the University of Glasgow. His research focuses on non-linear elasticity, particularly in modeling biological materials with pathological properties (e.g., Marfan’s syndrome-affected tissues), bifurcation analysis in composite elastic structures, and numerical methods for non-linear elastic instabilities. He has contributed to understanding arterial tissue mechanics, compressible elasticity solutions, and wrinkling instabilities in thin films.
Key research areas include:
- Exact solutions for three-dimensional compressible elasticity
- Bifurcation phenomena in multi-layered elastic tubes
- Numerical analysis of elastic instabilities
- Modeling biological materials with atypical mechanical properties
Publications highlight contributions to mechanics of materials, with notable work on arterial tissue mechanics and composite elastic media. Collaborations include studies with researchers like J. Merodio and A. Dorfmann.
